Ah the age of technology. I just love it. Nowadays you can do just about anything on or over the Internet. As long as you have a connection of some kind; blue-tooth or otherwise - then you can accomplish almost anything you want! Recently I was looking for some sites online that allow you to find birthday SMS messages because my friends bday is coming up and I wanted to wish her a happy birthday in a unique way! We always do special stuff for each other when it comes to our bdays. Never anything super boring! An SMS is just a fancy word for a text message but the acronym actually means - Short Message Service aka text message! I found a few sites that actually give you a ton of ideas through the website.

This is actually a really easy thing to do and you can do it in all kinds of languages not just standardized English. This is always nice as well because NOT everyone speaks or reads English! I have a best friend that knows VERY little English - he is Dutch. So when it comes to stuff like this, I try to make it as easy on him as I can. The first thing you have to do is find the site you want for the birthday SMS message. After you do so you should see a few different categories on the website itself - usually languages such as Dutch, English, French, Italian, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, etc. So when you pick a specific category - you will be given birthday messages in that language.

So if we take a look at Spanish, we can see things like: \"Feliz Cumpleanos! Deseandote buena salud y felicidad en la vida\" which means (I think) \"Happy Birthday To You! To Good Health & Happiness In Your Life\" or something along the lines of that. My Spanish is rusty! Which is why you should send me an English SMS! Anyway, you can find all kinds of different messages. Things like happy wishes, birthday jokes, memories, etc. Once you find the one you want simply type it into your phone and voila send. That person will receive your text and smile brightly that you even remembered it was their birthday. And even more - you actually spent a few minutes to send something unique instead of the usual \"Happy Birthday!\"

Also, if you really wanted to or if you don't have a cell phone - you can find text messages on these sites and then go to a free SMS sending site and just do a copy/paste in the sender message box and send it like that. It would save you from typing it out, its super quick, and its fun! Try it out and see for yourself!

How to Make Chinese Valentine's Cards

While Chinese Valentine's Day Qi Qiao Jie, is for lovers, the day is characterized by Chinese legend and culture. Celebrating on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the Chinese calendar (August), Chinese go to the temple of the Matchmaker to pray for romantic good fortune. It is not traditional to give Chinese Valentine's cards. But the practice has incorporated the Western use of cards, which are adorned with images and language that brings to mind traditional Qi Qiao Jie symbols.

Instructions

Making Chinese Valentine's Cards

Step 1

Make a Chinese Valentine's card that cites "Fairy of the Magpie Bridge." Immortalized by Chinese poet Qin Guan, this Song Dynasty (960 to 1279) poem symbolizes love that will never die. It is said that no magpies fly on Qi Qiao Jie. The birds all fly to the bridge where two legendary lovers met.

Step 2

Include an image of two lovers meeting on Magpie Bridge beneath grapevines. Write a few brief lines that imagine what the two Chinese lovers murmured to one another. Refer to your eternal joining in the heavens.

Step 3

Portray you and your love as the lovers Zhi Nu and Niu Lang. Add an adorned ox's horn to memorialize poor cowherd Niu Lang's only earthly possession.

Step 4

Give your love a card that displays two stars Alshain and Tarazed, who are the two lovers, together forever in the heavens. Include incense to bring to the Temple of the Matchmaker.

Step 4

Thanks to the technology of the Internet, we don’t have to rely on snail mail to greet our loved ones. And thanks to free E-cards, we don’t have to spend anything at all.

We used to just send our greetings on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, Easter, Christmas, and the like or events like birth, death, sickness, or success. Now, we can send anyone and everyone at least one card everyday just to show we are thinking of them and care for them. It shows our concern, sympathy, encouragement, support, and acknowledgment. Sending an E-card is truly sweet and thoughtful. And the best thing is it’s all just a click away, no hassles! What’s more, one cannot reiterate it enough, it’s all for free!

There are countless free E-cards available online. Sure, there are many ordinary ones but a lot of animated E-cards are free as well. Some musical E-cards are offered for free too. For different events, there are other different categories depending on what the sender wants to convey and what he knows the recipient will appreciate. Baby and Toddler Sleep - Birthdays and the Night You Were Born

For many years, Birthdays in our home were very simple, simple. We invited one friend and her parent or parents and my daughter Alicia's dearly beloved Grandma who she called "Gramma" who lived "down the road and around the corner." We always had a birthday cake (which was either chocolate or ice cream) and as sugary food was rarely seen in our house (this was the biggest treat) and very simple party food.

Anticipation of her Birthday was the big thing for Alicia. For many weeks this anticipation was enjoyed as much as the actual Birthday itself. Almost better than the blowing out of the candles ceremony and opening of the presents after breakfast.

Alicia thought that her birthday was "the cake ceremony", not the whole day. On one of her birthdays she asked, "When is my Birthday, Mum?" "It's right now love".

Eventually the penny dropped when she said, "When do we have the CAKE?" For her, the birthday was the cake, the candles and the singing of Happy Birthday. Not the fussing, the organizing, the people, the extra cleaning. Not the preparing for the day, the games, the take home bags, the outdoing of other peoples parties. We always planned The Cake Event for the morning. Alicia never knew parties could be a big event with lots of games and lots of people until she was quite a bit older. When we had these small event birthdays we had less dramas less upsets and more fun. One year we lashed out and had a party at a shop that did fairy parties with a minimum of 10 children, plus a few mums and dads. Most of the activities were rushed and in a cramped space and not much party food was eaten. Accidents happened and upsets appeared over misunderstandings and the cake was not the one Alicia had seen arrive and this caused a big upset and teasing. Every child but one got upset.

On the way home Alicia burst into tears, again. After the expense, the organizing, the extra travel she would have been happier with a few special friends, a cake ceremony and just one toy she could have played with. We have never had a large party since and we have not since had a hugely structured party or gone to a venue for an event. And we always unwrap the presents when everyone has arrived.

We sit in a circle and the birthday presents are passed and given to the birthday person one at a time by the child who brought them and then unwrapped and passed around for everyone to look at and check out. The giver of the present is thanked and gets as much as a thrill at the present receiver. This present ceremony is one of the first things we do and usually starts off our parties.

One of our best and more simple and more easier Birthdays when Alicia was older was soon after we moved from the city. We were renting a "beach house". We invited one friend from the city and one new friend from the country. It was more of an "all day visit" party. Yes, we had a cake, a small amount of party food and the present opening ceremony. Alicia felt she was the birthday girl for the whole day. This home was on a sheep farm, with large rooms and sheep in the back yard. At this party we introduced a few games and threw a Frisbee around the back yard, which was really a paddock and chased the sheep! This party was a huge success. Guests were more than happy to travel the longer distance to the farm and the mums sat on the back verandah and watched the party from a distance, breathed in the fresh farm air and watched what it is that sheep do.

All in all there is a lead up to birthdays. I tell my daughters the story of their birth. As Alicia still reminds me, birthdays are really anniversaries of the day they were born.

With Alicia, I tell her how I worked right up to the day before she was born. As I was driving home my mantra was "please, please wait until I get home, please, please, wait until I get home". Alicia loves to hear this. The story continues with how I was a week overdue and I really was worried that contractions would start as I was driving home (and as she was my first born I had no idea what contractions would feel like and what sort of pain to expect, I just knew I did not want them to happen on the freeway driving home in the rush hour.

When I had attended the pre-natal classes one of the things I had learnt was that giving birth was like running in a marathon and to eat marathon type food in the early stages of labor. Well I did all that and climbed into bed and BINGO in the early hours of the morning contractions woke me up and about 12 hours later Alicia was born, at 6.23 pm on the 23rd of June. Catchy numbers!!! I tell this story every year the night before her birthday and embellish different parts, answer her questions and find that the bond between us increases every time. Both my daughters love this part of their Birthday celebrations and sometimes ask me to tell them their birth story when it is not even their birthday, just to hear the wonder of it all. So if you want a simple, easy, country style birthday here are some tips.

Step By Step

1. When your child is young, one or two invited guests plus parents can be enough for a party, plus a beloved relative or two.

2. Building up the anticipation and reliving the event can be enjoyed over many days and weeks.

3. A Cake and Candle Ceremony may be all that's needed.

4. Having the party in the morning can relieve the tension of waiting and waiting.

5. Opening the presents. Have the party guests and birthday child sit in a circle. Have the guests one at a time hand the present they have brought to the birthday child who opens the present and then passes it around the circle. This can be a great way to start the party.

6. Even when your child is older, smaller and little effort can still work, for
example, a walk on the beach, a trip to a special playground or watching a movie.

7. Tell your child the story of the day or night they were born.

Religious

While the holidays and Christmas are a very religious time, there can be a big question about which religion. If you're not sure what or how your friends are celebrating, stick to a non-religious greeting. This is a safe and festive way to send your wishes. Your family, on the other hand, should be no mystery. You already know how important religion is to your family, so pick a card that is thoughtful and appropriate. There is no rule when selecting a Christmas or holiday card to your family, but you should know what is best.

A good laugh can brighten everyone's holiday. While this may not be appropriate for everyone on your list, you can certainly select a funny holiday card for your friends who enjoy a good laugh. It is best to steer clear of any joke that is a little too racy. Luckily, they just don't make too many offensive Christmas cards so you're safe there. As a litmus test for your holiday or Christmas joke card, think if your boss or your mom would laugh at it or be offended. If you think they would both laugh, then you're all set. Many families go to great lengths to include a photograph of their children dressed up for the holiday or even the whole family - including the dog. A photo card is a great way to send your wishes. Your family will love to see your shining faces around the holidays, especially if you're living far away from each other. A photo Christmas card might not be the best choice for your old college friend or a casual acquaintance. It certainly wouldn't be offensive, just make sure you're in the picture so there is someone they recognize in the picture.

Notes and newsletters

A holiday note or letter is perfect for keeping your family and friends up-to-date. End the year on a cheerful note by highlighting your family's accomplishments and triumphs. Keep the note cheerful and newsy and you'll be all set. You might want to leave out any depressing news - like when the turtle died - just to keep with the holiday spirit. Again, make sure you know your audience. Some more casual or business acquaintances may not be as interested in your news as your family and close friends. For those on your list, skip the long note and include your hand written wishes. In some cases, less is more.

One thing is for sure, real paper Christmas cards are the only way to go. An e-mail Christmas greeting is just not the same. Don't get lazy and think you can send an email and be off the hook for Christmas cards. Sending a real Christmas card with your genuine holiday wishes is a long standing tradition that should be honored.

A birthday is the date on which a person was born. It is customary in many cultures to celebrate the anniversary of one's birthday in some way, for example by having a birthday party with friends in which gifts are exchanged. It is also customary to treat someone especially nice and generally accede to their wishes on their birthday.

Western birthday traditions

In most English-speaking countries it is traditional to sing the song "Happy Birthday" to the honored person celebrating their birthday. This happens traditionally at a birthday party while someone brings a birthday cake into the room, which is often darkened. The birthday cake is traditionally a highly decorated cake, and is typically covered with lit candles when presented; the number of candles equals the age of the person. The person whose birthday it is will make a silent wish and then blow out the candles. If done in one breath, the wish is supposed to come true. Another superstition associated with birthday wishes is that if you reveal your wish, it won't come true. It is also very common for the "birthday boy" or "birthday girl" to cut the initial piece of the cake, except for young children.

The singing of the song also often happens at a restaurant when one gets taken out for their birthday. The server or servers in the restaurant may lead the singing of the song while dessert is delivered to the table (which may or may not be a piece of cake, and may or may not be complimentary). The dessert may feature a sparkler instead of a candle. Other customers at the restaurant usually join in for the singing of the song. At some restaurants the servers may perform special, untraditional birthday songs and dances.

For special birthdays and for when the number of candles might be considered a fire hazard, special candles might be substituted for the many individual candles. These candles are in the shape of a numeral; for example on one's 5th birthday there may be only one candle on the cake in the shape of the numeral 5, and on one's 50th birthday there may be only one candle on the cake in the shape of the numeral 50.

A birthday is considered a special day for the person, and so the person will often get special treatment from friends and family. This is specially true for children who cannot wait for their own special day. In contrast, many adults loathe the reminder that they are continually getting older. In addition to parties, people often get (and give!) gifts on their birthday. Often, the honored person gets a "birthday hug" from friends and family.

Birthday parties for children often include fun games, like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Musical Chairs and hitting piñatas. For adults, the parties tend to be more formal, such as a nice dinner at a restaurant. Despite the age, these parties have the intent of making the honored person very happy. There are also traditions of surprise parties. This sometimes causes people to feel ignored because it appears their birthday has been forgotten, when actually it has not been mentioned because a surprise party has been planned. Conversely, some people do not mention that nothing is planned for their birthday, because they expect a surprise party.

* When the most significant digit changes, for example one's 1st, 10th, 20th, 50th, or 100th birthdays.* In most legal systems, one becomes a legal adult on a particular birthday, and at different ages gain different rights and responsibilities -- voting, certain drug use (e.g. alcohol, tobacco), eligibility for military draft, etc.

* Most cultures have one or more coming of age birthdays:o Jewish boys have a bar mitzvah on their 13th birthday. In Reform and Conservative Judaism, Jewish girls observe a bat mitzvah on their 12th or 13th birthday.o In Latin America the quinceañera celebration traditionally marks a girl's 15th birthday.o Many girls in the USA have "sweet sixteen" birthday parties.o In countries with significant drinking ages, it is often typical to become intoxicated with one's friends as soon as legal; some bars facilitate this through drink specials or the like. In countries where age restrictions on alcohol are loosely enforced, this phenomenon may be less common.

The birthdays of historically significant people, like Jesus, Muhammad, or Martin Luther King, Jr., are often turned into holidays.

Official/Alternative birthdays

Some notables, particularly monarchs such as Queen Elizabeth of England have "official birthdays" which do not match their actual birthday, but on which celebrations are held. In cases where an historical figure's actual birthday is unknown, e.g. Jesus, it is common for a particular date to be substituted.
Children who are born on the 29th of February, which only falls on Leap years, often celebrate their birthday annually on the 28th, or the 1st of March.

In Roman Catholic countries such as France, it is common also to have a 'name day'/'Saint's day'. This is celebrated in much the same way as a birthday, but is held on the official day of the saint that the person is named after.

History of celebration of birthdays in the West

It is thought that the large scale celebration of birthdays in Europe was due to Mithraism in the Roman Empire, and that prior to this it was not so common. Mithraism had a large influence throughout the empire, due to being taken up by many Roman soldiers, until it was supplanted by Christianity. Even today, the celebration of birthdays is not universal in the West, for example, the Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate birthdays, considering them to be a pagan festival, along with Christmas and Easter.

Though there is no record to tell us who send or received the first birthday card but it said the tradition of sending Birthday Cards began in England a century ago. History of Greeting Cards

History of Greeting Cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese who are said to have started the tradition of sending goodwill messages on a New Year. Early Egyptians too are believed to have made used papyrus scrolls to convey greetings to dear ones. During early 1400 the tradition of exchanging handmade paper greeting cards developed in Europe while Germans at that time are known to have printed New Year’s greetings from woodcuts The advancement in printing technology and mechanization besides introduction of postage stamps in 1850s helped to make greeting cards more affordable. No wonder, they soon became popular means of personal communication. However, credit for the start of Greeting Card industry in US is given to Louis Prang, a German immigrant who started a small lithographic business near Boston in 1856. Prang perfected printing over a decade and in early 1870s, he published deluxe editions of Christmas cards that became an instant hit in England. US Card Industry saw a slump in 1890 and 1906 but soon after 1906, the situation improved and a number of leading card producers of today were founded. Now the cards played on sentimentality and were quite unlike Prang’s elaborate creations.Increased competition during World War I improved printing process. Early 1930s saw the use of color lithography. The move lead to an unprecedented growth in US Card industry. 1950s saw the entry of humor in cards with the creation of studio cards that were long cards with a short punch line. During 1980s non-event cards or the cards not made for any particular occasion began popular and helped card industry reach a new high.

1. Open Word.
2. Click Tools, then Envelopes and Labels (under Letters and Mailings in Word XP).
3. In the Envelopes and Labels box, click the Labels tab.

To make the birthday card, you will need to take your piece of card stock paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Be sure your crease is nice and tight. Once this is done, all you will need to do is add your custom message on the cover and on the inside. To make it more decorative, you can simply use different colors of card stock and cut out shapes and paste them to the front. You could also draw on the front if you are an artist. Yet another option is to jazz up the card by turning it into one of the birthday cards below.

Photo Birthday Card

To make the photo birthday birthday card, first you will need to make the basic card above, leaving out decorating the front. That will come with adding the photograph.

Instructions:
Now that you have made the basic birthday card, take another piece of card stock. Fold it in half lengthwise, just as with the basic card. Cut down the fold all the way until you have cut the paper in half. Check the size of your photograph. Trace that size on one of your pieces of halved paper. Cut that shape out.

Now take your scissors and cut out a square or circle inside the paper shape you just cut out. Make sure the opening you create is the correct size to showcase the photo. Now take your photo and glue it to the front of the card.

Glue your shape over the photo in the appropriate position. Let the card dry according to the instructions on your glue. This can be anywhere from a few hours to a full 24 hours. To avoid the card from sticking together, lay it open to dry. If you haven't added your message, do so once the card is dry.

Your card is now ready to give to that special someone.
